A Letter from the Editor: Welcome to Shore & Simple

There’s a moment at the lake that doesn’t exist anywhere else.

It’s early — earlier than you’d normally be up. The coffee is too hot to drink. The water hasn’t decided what color it wants to be yet. And for a few minutes, before anyone else wakes up, the whole place belongs to you.

That’s the moment Shore & Simple was built for.

We started this magazine because we believe lake houses deserve better than what’s out there. Not another Pinterest board of staged rooms no one actually lives in. Not another listicle written by someone who’s never pulled a dock out before first frost. Something more considered than that. Something that actually understands this life.

Shore & Simple is a digital magazine for people who care about how they live at the water. The furniture you choose for a screened porch. The table you set when the whole family is finally in one place. The fire pit that anchors every evening from Memorial Day through October. These details shape the experience — and we think they deserve the same editorial attention given to city apartments and coastal homes.

What we cover

Our editorial lives within six pillars: The Home (interiors, furnishings, seasonal styling), The Shore (docks, outdoor living, fire and light), The Table (food, drink, entertaining), The Water (boats, kayaks, lake activities), The Family (kids, traditions, generations), and The Investment (property, rentals, smart purchases).

Every product we feature is selected by our editorial team. We test what we recommend, and we only write about things we’d put in our own lake houses. When you purchase through our links, we may earn a commission, but our recommendations are never influenced by partnerships.

What’s ahead

Over the coming weeks, we’ll be publishing our first round of features: a guest room edit for the hosts who want to get it right, an outdoor dining table guide for the season ahead, and a deep dive into the smartest lake house tech on the market. We’ll also have guides on spring openings, Adirondack chairs, and why the outdoor shower might be the most underrated feature of any lakefront property.

We’re glad you’re here. Pull up a chair — preferably one with a view.
